Students are assigned to guided groups based on RIT ranges from NWEA MAP testing. I meet with each group to do RIT range work while the rest of the groups work independently on their checklists. Then, for the last twenty-five minutes of the math block, I meet with the whole class to do CCSS math for fifth grade.
Students keep their work in Goodnotes and sometimes make videos using ShowMe or Educreations to demonstrate understanding of concepts. |
Students are assigned to guided groups based on RIT ranges/lexiles. The schedule is projected onto the board during the rotations of the lit block for students to follow.
Most activities involve independent work on the iPad on various apps, websites, or assignments. Students also read "real books," too! :) |
Mrs. Wyman's Math Set-Up
Students are assigned Small Groups based on RIT Ranges from NWEA MAP testing. Groups are flexible and vary from unit to unit. Each group rotates through the following stations: Small Group, IXL, FrontRow, Applied Mathematics, and iTunes U. Small Group and IXL are specifically aligned to NWEA; FrontRow and iTunes U are specifically aligned to CCSS. Applied Mathematics blends both.
3rd graders rotate through 3 stations for 15 minutes each day: FrontRow or IXL, iTunes U or Applied Mathematics, and Small Group. 4th graders rotate through 3 stations for 17 minutes each day: FrontRow or IXL, iTunes U or Applied Mathematics, and Small Group. 5th graders rotate through 4 stations for 20 minutes each day: FrontRow or IXL, iTunes U or Applied Mathematics, ST Math, and Small Group.. (Differences are due to scheduling and total block time available.)
Students use a variety of apps to demonstrate their understanding including, but not limited to, Goodnotes, ExplainEverything, iMovie, Keynote, Pages, PuppetPals, and MasteryConnect Student. Each student group has a checklist of items they need to work through during the rotations. As they rotate through each station, they will work on the items listed under each station name.
After each rotation, students complete a Rotation Reflection Google Form. Students complete a self-evaluation on five criteria - getting started right away, staying in one spot, working the entire time, using a quiet voice, and cleaning up after themselves. Students rank themselves on a scale of 1 (needs improvement) to 4 (excellent). Students also write a goal for next rotation; this can be something they want to improve upon or something they want to maintain from the five criteria.
